Hillcrest's Most Romantic Restaurants

Hillcrest’s Best Romantic Restaurants

From dramatic interiors, to exotic cuisine, to alluring ambiences, Hillcrest is brimming with romantic restaurants to enjoy during your next stay at the Hillcrest House. Here is a list of our favorites, all within steps from us.

Au Revoir Bistro
Au Revoir Bistro

Oh la la! Both you and your honey will have a love affair with French cuisine at Au Revoir Bistro. We can almost guarantee it. This quaint romantic restaurant feels like Paris the moment you walk in, with a marble bar, corner seats for two in leather booths, bistro chairs, a delectable menu written out on a chalkboard wall, and a music track with French jazz. A specials menu written only in French,  and the native French wait staff who will translate it for you, adds to its European appeal. You can’t go wrong with their Saumon et Noix de St Jacques Sur Lit de Poireaux (salmon and scallops on a bed of creamy leek sauce) or the popular Cassoulet de DeDe (duck confit, pork belly and sauce cooked slowly with white coco beans, garlic, tomatoes, carrots and onions).

Bombay Exotic Cuisine

Expect love at first sight when you walk into this expansive and exotic Indian restaurant between Washington and University on 5th Avenue. A dramatic ceiling-to-floor waterfall dividing the outdoor and indoor dining rooms is what diners will notice first, but it’s the spicy blends of Indian flavors that they’ll remember the most.  Expect luxurious décor with Indian accents, elaborate chandeliers, and alluring Indian music while you enjoy a meal of Tandoori Chicken laced with yogurt sauce and fresh ginger or the pungent Lamb Curry.

Arrivederci Ristorante

When It’s a romantic Italian dinner our guests are looking for, we send the lovebirds to our favorite ristorante, Arrivederci. The inside is reminiscent of real eateries in Italy…meaning its homey atmosphere is combined with a warm hospitality and family-like service. Not to mention that it’s considered by San Diego locals as one of the most authentic Italian restaurants in the entire county! Even Ann can attest and says, “the Pork Osso Bucco is the BOMB!” Most of the staff are native Italians; Julio and Lucho are our favorites and always treat our guests like family. Oftentimes, they will treat you to a complimentary Tiramisu if you mention that you are staying at Hillcrest House!

Celadon

If you and your loved one crave Thai cuisine, Celadon is one of Hillcrest’s finest. However, this isn’t your typical Thai restaurant. Celadon is San Diego’s first Thai restaurant, opening in 1981, and has since then been re-imagined into a swanky culinary destination.  It’s stylish, modern ambience features the signature Celadon color (light jade-green) and oversized white banquettes that easily remind us of a sleek New York restaurant.  The food is just as luxurious and romantic. The menu was originally created by a chef who cooked for the Siamese royal family and we agree that the food is tasty and creative enough to impress Thai royalty. When we go there, we can’t stay away from their Pad Ped Talay, a combination of seafood, bamboo shoots, bell pepper, basil and a spicy sauce or their Choo Chee Duck, a tropical curry dish with coconut milk, green peas, bell pepper and lime leaves.

Chocolat Hillcrest

Couples will swoon over this dessert café/gelato bar/bistro – all rolled into one cozy corner in the absolute heart of Hillcrest. Go here to end the night on a sweet note, or enjoy their light dinner fare first and stay for the rest. For dessert, you’ll savor everything from sweet Nutella crepes, creamy gelato (made with chocolate from six different qualities of cocoa from all over the world), wild berry tarts, crème brulee and a vast assortment of cakes, cookies and pastries. Also on the menu are light savory options, such as Carpaccio and Portobello antipasti, a Mozzarella Tasting Plate, a Prosciutto and Gruyere Panini, Fennel Sausage Pizza and Ricotta Gnocchi. Understandably, this dessert café is brimming with people, but it feels surprisingly intimate. Amazing for people watching, too.
Do you have any favorite restaurants in Hillcrest that are ripe for romance??
